Company History
Scripps Health has a long history in San Diego, dating back to 1924 when Ellen Browning Scripps founded Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla. Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego’s oldest hospital, was founded in 1890 and joined the Scripps Health system in 1995. Scripps Mercy Hospital expanded in October 2004 by joining operations with Scripps Memorial Hospital Chula Vista, creating a second Scripps Mercy campus: Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista.
